. . . if action is not taken to restore the education system in Northern Nigeria.
Day after day, these children are one step closer to complete illiteracy, making them susceptible to repeating generational mistakes and ignoring endless possibilities.
In memory of Benjamin and Esther Elesin, the Benjamin & Esther Elesin Foundation was founded to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for growth in every educational system rooted in its community.
Benjamin and Esther Elesin worked for the Sokoto State Government, Northern Nigeria, in West Africa, between 1972 and 1997. They were strong advocates for quality education as they believed it should be the bedrock of any community. In particular, they devoted substantial resources to supporting activities of the Federal Government College Sokoto, Nigeria.
In February 2021, the Benjamin & Esther Elesin Foundation partnered with the Federal Government College, Sokoto, Nigeria, to hold its 50th Annual Founders Day
During Founder’s Day, the Foundation presented awards of N25,000 each to eight (8) deserving students in SS1 and SS2.
• Peter Omia Iyango
• Buhari Yusuf Hauwa’u
• Abdulkarim Abubakar
• Abdul-Alim Balarabe
• Lucy Ugwuene
• Prince Michael
• Musa Umar Salmanu
• Abdul -Alim Balarabe
These students displayed a high commitment and hard work as they were crowned with the highest grades in Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing. The Foundation also offered awards to 2 staff members for their outstanding commitment, punctuality and selflessness. Speaking to one of our members, he said . . .
"....unity schools (FGCs, etc) used to be the aspiration of many youngsters and this helped create the moral fabric of households back in the 70s to the 90s. " Unfortunately, Nigeria has allowed societal values to be governed by nepotism, tribalism, reality TV shows, internet concepts, personal ambition, financial gains at all cost, etc.
As a result, this event is a step forward to bring light, hope and a legacy for the future of the children of our nation, Nigeria. Our actions are to empower our community and be a part of a generational movement yet to be fulfilled. The Foundation hopes that all of us will join hands together and take little steps in the right direction.
Our passion for excellence in education and giving back means that every dollar of funds you donate goes directly to the students and projects we initiate.
The Foundation strongly believes that extracurricular events teach teamwork, collaboration, discipline and every possible virtue that can restore, upscale and direct the lives of these children and their generations to come.
We are signing up more partners as we look to make FGC Sokoto one of the most desirous secondary schools in Africa. Our website will have more information on partner’s enrolment or you can also sign up for our bi-annual newsletter by reaching out to : info@bensterfoundation.org
